Comparing Sonnen’s actions to Mayweather’s behavior, White is confused by commissions’ actions
Dana White is confused. With Chael Sonnen facing a possible two-year ban from fighting, the UFC president looked at past penalties handed down by commissions like the one in California and sees some inconsistencies, especially with boxers.
"Let me ask you a question, Floyd Mayweather's been running around town punching everyone in the face and threatening people and doing all this stuff. Watch how fast Floyd Mayweather gets licensed," said White (6:56 mark).
Mayweather's involved in several legal battles. One involves multiple felony counts for an alleged incident with a former girlfriend. A bouncer from Drai's on the Las Vegas strip is also suing Mayweather for alleged altercation, and the former pound-for-pound king is further involved in several legal battles with his community's homeowners association and security guards.
White then turned his attention to the CSAC's action with boxer Antonio Margarito.
"If you look at boxing man, there's been situations where guys have put weapons inside their hands and fought another human being," White said. "There's been instances where people have assaulted other people in the ring."
In his first attempt to regain his license, Margarito was also turned down by the CSAC. He scurried off to Texas and was allowed to fight Manny Pacquiao in the U.S. after 17 months away.
By lashing out at a commission, White knows he's walking on dangerous ground.
"It's a touchy subject for me," White said. "If you're dumb enough to do something to get in trouble, you gotta face the consequences. This guy did some dumb stuff, he manned up and he was punished. Once that sentence is over, it's over man."
White tensed up when asked if Sonnen did this to himself.
"What happened with Chael Sonnen? Chael Sonnen has a big mouth. Chael Sonnen says a lot of dumb [expletive]. When you get to the point where a guy serves his sentence and now you're stopping a guy, his ability to make a living? What happened to Chael Sonnen is insane. It's unjust. It's unfair."

Mir and Nelson may be friends, but punching each other in the face is no problem
Before past fights, Frank Mir has engaged in some pretty nasty trash talking wars. This time it just doesn't feel right, but that doesn't mean Mir's fightplan is any different against Roy Nelson.
"If my wife we're to get in the ring with me, I would try to knock her head off and choke her unconscious. I would flip the switch instantly," Mir said with a smile. "Roy and I are friends before the fight. I like the guy a lot. But during the fight, it doesn't matter that we do or don't like each other beforehand. Trust me, Roy is going to try and knock my head off. I'm going to try and knock his head off. And if I can catch him in a choke, I want him to go to sleep. And I guarantee you he'd like to take arm off and put it on his mantle."

Hamill’s grandfather a key to his success
Living in the bubble of the MMA world, it's easy to forget how remarkable Matt Hamill is for being a deaf fighter. He's been in the UFC since 2006, so we're used to him overcoming odds, and usually treat him no differently than any other fighter. It turns out that we're not the only ones, as his grandfather did the same.
Those expectations from his grandfather helped propel Hamill to become an elite fighter, and led him to the main event of Saturday's UFC 130 against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

McDonald faces UFC newcomer Chris Cariaso on the undercard of UFC 130. The fighters have a history with Cariaso taking out a McDonald teammate in a past fight. It was a frustrating night for McDonald who worked the corner. He wants to exact a bit of revenge for his buddy. McDonald is a huge minus-300 favorite over Cariaso.

Sam Stout is in Las Vegas prepping for his UFC 131 bout against Yves Edwards. One of the more dynamic strikers in the lightweight division, he needs to put together a winning streak to breakthrough into the UFC's top 10.

It sounds like Jackson has no plans of piling up points on his way to a decision victory:
I'm under no pressure to get a knockout, but I always try for the knockout. I have kept that mentality from PRIDE, where it was more important to have a great fight than win or lose. I would never criticize any fighter but at the end of the day, this is entertainment, and I want to give the fans what they paying their money for. This is the career I chose ? fighting ? and so let's fight.
We're guessing arm-wrestling Travis Pastrana was not part of Jackson's training camp preparation for Hamill's wrestling ability.
Jackson and Pastrana clashed at the press conference in Los Angeles to announce the partnership between the action sports star and Waltrip Racing on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Tour.

This ‘Pitbull’ has some bite: Patricio Freire gets the job done at Bellator 145-pound final
"Big, strong wrestler grinds out a victory over dynamic striker."
Patricio "Pitbull: Freire couldn't have enjoyed that storyline playing out last weekend when his brother Patricky was grounded often and lost to Michael Chandler at Bellator 44.
At Bellator 45, Freire penned a different story. From the start of his fight against Daniel Straus, the younger of the Pitbull brothers was wary of the former college wrestler's takedowns and avoided the mat for all but a few seconds on his way to winning the Bellator Season 4 Featherweight tourney title in unanimous fashion, 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27, last night in Lake Charles, La.
The win gets Pitbull (17-1) a $100,000 payday and chance to rematch against Bellator 145-pound champ Joe Warren.
"There were lots of things going on in my mind," Freire told Sherdog, "but the primary thing was the victory and [getting] a shot at a belt for the first time in my career. I'm going to be a champion. I'm going to take his belt."
Freire, 23, smoked Warren in the first round of a fight last June. Pitbull couldn't close it out and thwarted by Warren's ground attack over the next two rounds. With markedly improved takedown defense against Straus, Freire looked like a different fighter.
Straus, with a three-inch height advantage over the 5-foot-5 Freire, looked massive in the cage, but his size never took over. He executed a few nice throws, but Freire bounced right back up. When the fight was in the clinch, Pitbull more than held his own and by the third round he looked like the more powerful fighter.
The stoppage of the night was produced by Bellator's new light heavyweight champ. With 45 seconds left in the fight, Christian M'Pumbu caught the former champ with a right hook and pounded him out on the ground.

Brock Lesnar Undergoes Surgery, Still Targeted for January 2012 Return
Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar underwent surgery on Friday to reduce symptoms from the digestive disease that forced him off UFC 131, but is still on track to return to action as early as January.

The commission has now finalized Sonnen's timeline as to when he would be able to re-apply for a license in the state. According to the California State Athletic Commission, Sonnen's suspension will run through his current license expires on June 29, 2011.
Folllowing the expiration of his license, Sonnen will not be able to re-apply for a new license in the state until at least May 18, 2012. At that time, Sonnne can re-apply for a license in the state of California, but there are still no guarantees he will be approved.
Looks like Sonnen and UFC will be faced with the choice of snubbing California and heading elsewhere or the fighter will be sidelined until the middle of 2012. The extension of the penalty is similar to what California did to Antonio Margarito. We're not comparing what Margarito was caught doing (loading his handwraps with a plaster-like substance) to Sonnen's offense, but the state left the fighter with no recourse and no way to make a living. Frankly, that's a ridiculous penalty in this case.
Update: The CSAC was "confused" and now Sonnen is eligible to re-apply this year.
"Upon reviewing the May 18, 2011 decision of the commission, an error in the applicability of Rule 399 was made," stated a release issued today by the commission. "The rule states that, 'Any applicant who has been denied an application for a license may not file a similar application until one year from the date of the last previous denial by the commission. Any application filed within the one year period may be denied without the necessity of a hearing. Anyone who has had his license revoked may not petition for reinstatement or apply for a new license until one year after the date of such revocation. Any petition for reinstatement filed within the one year period may be denied without the necessity of a hearing.'
"Since the commission did not revoke or deny Mr. Sonnen's license, the rule does not apply."
