Ronda Rousey's first title defense is set. As reported by MMA Fighting, She will face Sarah Kaufman in San Diego on Aug. 18 in her first bout since winning the Strikeforce bantamweight championship from Miesha Tate in March.
Kaufman was expected to get the title shot before Rousey after beating Liz Carmouche last July. However, Rousey's string of fast armbar wins and her wise move of incessantly asking for the bout moved her to the head of line. Rousey won the belt with another armbar submission.
Now, she'll try to hold onto that belt in facing Kaufman, a tough striker with 10 of her 15 wins coming by knockout or TKO. Kaufman has just one loss on her record. She was submitted by former champion Marloes Coenen by an armbar, the exact move Rousey is so fond of. As an Olympic medalist in judo, Rousey knows how to employ armbars quickly. Four of her five wins came in under a minute.
