Dos Santos may not have the power to grab the UFC strap

The fight game is tough. Sometimes winning isn't enough. In some circles, Jon Fitch has already taken his beating over the way he defeated Thiago Alves at UFC 117. Junior Dos Santos earned his shot at the UFC title with his victory over Roy Nelson but now he has some viewers questioning his power. JDS is now part of the growing debate over whether guys in the range of 240 pounds or smaller can thrive against the heavyweights who push the 265 limit. Dos Santos beat the snot out of Nelson but couldn't put him down. Do we give Nelson credit for having sick ability to take a beating or is Dos Santos short on power? If he can't take out Nelson what happens when he faces someone like Brock Lesnar or Shane Carwin? On the positive side, Dos Santos' stamina was very good. Most heavyweights who throw that many shots eventually get weary. Dos Santos outlanded Nelson
Dos Santos dominated the entire fight, outlanding Nelson 130 to 38, with 78 of those shots being power punches. According to Compustrike, he also attempted 245 punches. That's impressive when lined up against the punch output of most heavyweight boxers. On the downside, Dos Santos was one-dimensional. He only attempted 14 kicks against a very stationary target.Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole checks in with his take on JDS' chances against Lesnar, if the champ defends his title at UFC 123.
