Barnett, Parisyan, Soko pick up wins down under at Impact

UFC veterans Josh Barnett, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Karo Parisyan all walked away with much-needed wins from Impact FC fights in Brisbane, Australia today.

Barnett, who had promised to "anally rape" Geronimo Dos Santos, thankfully didn't follow through on that plan. Instead, he overcame the much larger Dos Santos with takedowns and ground and pound, winning by TKO in the first round.

Sokoudjou's last bout was a win due to disqualification over Dave Herman, but before that, he was TKOed by both Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa in DREAM and Gegard Mousasi in Strikeforce. At Impact, Soko was the one on the winning side, quickly pounding out Joakim Ferreira. Sokoudjou's 80-second win doesn't quell any fears about his lack of conditioning, but a win will help get him back on track.

Speaking of fighters who needed to get back on track, Karo Parisyan won with a rear naked choke over Ben Mortimer in the second round. He returned to his judo roots, throwing Mortimer to the ground several times before finishing with the RNC.

This was Parisyan's first bout since fighting Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 94. Parisyan tested positive for painkillers after that bout. Then, when Parisyan was scheduled to fight Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106 in November of 2009, he pulled out the day before weigh-ins. That move put Parisyan on Dana White and the UFC's bad side.

Parisyan, who has battled anxiety problems for much of his career, needed a win to move on from his rough 2009 and show he still wanted to fight. According to Sherdog reporter Jordan Breen, who was on-site for the fights, Parisyan looked relieved when the fight was over.
