Wineland notches savage TKO, Horodecki chokes out Downes

At WEC 49 in Edmonton, Canada on Sunday night, Eddie Wineland started out the broadcast on Versus with a vicious TKO of Will Campuzano at 4:44 in the second round.

Campuzano wore Wineland down early by whipping Wineland's legs with snapping low kicks. Wineland answered back and knocked Campuzano down near the end of the first round.

Fireworks really started in the second round. Wineland tagged Campuzano with a three-punch combo, knocking him to the ground. Campuzano rolled and covered up to avoid Wineland's punches and somehow survived the onslaught. Campuzano got back to his feet and, though wobbly, he managed to throw a few knees and kicks at Wineland. With less than a minute left in the round, Wineland threw a brutal body shot, and with that, Campuzano fell to the ground.

With this win, Wineland is on a three-bout winning streak in the WEC's bantamweight division.

Horodecki submits late replacement in front of home crowd

In his first fight since being knocked out by Anthony Njokuani, Chris "The Polish Hammer" Horodecki submitted WEC newcomer Danny Downes at 1:09 in the third round.

Horodecki had two chances to finish the fight in the first round, first with a guillotine and next with a rear naked choke. However, Downes fought through both and by the end was the aggressor, landing punches on the more seasoned Horodecki.

Horodecki took the lead in the next round, landing punches and strikes on Downes at will. He was even able to throw two spinning back kicks in a row. Downes appeared to be tired, but came out in the third round throwing kicks and punches off the bell. Horodecki countered with a kick to the torso followed by a takedown. Horodecki took Downes back and sunk in a choke, forcing Downes to tap.

Still, Downes deserves credit for fighting as well as he did. He fought on late notice, replacing Ed Ratcliff after he had to withdraw from WEC 49 with injury.
