There was a party in New York...in Los Angeles last night. Er...at least Billabong spiked everyone's drinks and made them believe they were partying in the streets of NYC. Regardless, it was one hell of a night.
Billabong's annual charity event, Design For Humanity (DFH) was held last night at Paramount Studios benefiting the charity Invisible Children. Invisible Children uses film, creativity, and social action in order to prevent the use of child soldiers in North Uganda. With something like that bringing the action sports community together to celebrate and party for a good cause, you can't go wrong.
DFH is a hit every year but this year they changed up the venue and created more of a block party vibe on the epic NY streets backlot. This obviously initially begged the question, how can we get on the rooftops? With that resulting in a failed mission to do so, there was plenty left to keep everyone entertained, happy, and buzzed.
With two concert stages set up, the Dethkills live art installation going off the whole night, art galleries, t-shirt screen printing, and multiple full bars - this event was one for the books. The Billabong bikini fashion show kicked things off right, getting the boys all riled up and ready to start stalking. It opened up with a Legion of Extraordinary Dancers performance and ended with tons of neon onesies, and a rowdy crowd. Not sure the guys really knew what do with themselves with so many babes running around.
Kid Sister performed along with Fischerspooner, who to put it lightly, had some crazy ass dancers and costume choices (lots of tight...tight...silver.) The outfits were entertainment in themselves however, paired with Fischerspooner bringing some random chick out of the crowd to do a cover of his hit song was just confusing. Nonetheless, everyone was rocking out to the beats and spilling their booze all over each other.
For a night capper, Classixx deejayed a marathon of a dance party while all the guests were in their prime state of mind. People were dancing their faces off and just having a damn awesome time. Why wouldn't they? An outdoors block party on a cool summer night for a good cause? That's a pretty ideal situation.
As the music died, people began to trickle out but not before stopping at the Grilled Cheese Truck for a little midnight (2 am) snack. Slowly but surely, everyone stumbled home from the streets of New York....Hollywood.
Alright Billabong, you win, you always do.
