Surfing lifeguard breaks his neck at Ours

Surfing lifeguard breaks his neck at Ours
There was a very scary incident at Australia's notorious heaving slab known as "Ours" just outside of Sydney on Sunday when Kobi Graham, a local Bondi Rescue lifeguard, seriously injured his neck during a hideous trip over the falls.

According to witnesses, Graham pearled on takeoff, and during his ensuing trip over the falls was slammed head-first into the reef.

According to Australia's coastalwatch editor Ben Harvath, Graham fractured two vertebrae in his neck. Fortunately, his good friend John Dwyer and photographer Bill Morris immediately rushed to his aid, lifting him onto their floating sled and taking him by jet ski around the corner to Kurnell beach, where they promptly called an ambulance.

From there, Graham was airlifted to Royal North Shore hospital within 20 minutes, where as of Sunday afternoon he was reported to be in stable condition.

Graham is a respected member of the tight-knit big-wave crew that regularly charges the wave at Ours. Sunday was reportedly one of the biggest day's of 2010.
